Before you go: Israelis are very warm and patient with Hebrew learners. Even a few words of Hebrew will earn you a big smile. The word סְלִיחָה (slicha — excuse me / sorry) is your best friend.

Tip: Taxis in Israel use meters (moneh מוֹנֶה) — always ask the driver to turn it on: תַּדְלִיק אֶת הַמּוֹנֶה בְּבַקָּשָׁה (tadlik et ha-mone bevakasha).
