The giving tree , authored by Shel Silverstein is a children's book which is very popular in Israel as a book children practice to read in the first or second grade. The book itself is quite easy compared to others and students who manage to read though it improve their Hebrew learning skills (understanding from books is important)
I will say, when I've been teaching students who could already read, I often gave them some sort of assignment related to the book. Which is why its a good idea to give it as a challenge.
